I know Jennifer because she is a family friend. She was the drummer of a small band a few years back, and although the band was dis"band"ed, she still writes music today. I talked with her about how to open your mind to new ideas and how to get over writer's block. She also helped me use my melody to produce a bass line. She is now helping me write the melodies for the verses. Mrs. Kraus is also willing to loan me some of her recording equipment so that I can publish my music.
In my discussion with Ms. Tunink we talked about how my song was pretty vague. She said that songs become popular and well listened to when they are both relatable and also contain a specific topic. She played the song "Closing Time" by Semisonic. These are the lyrics below:
She explained how this song was actually about a pregnancy and a pro-life message. She showed me that a song that is played commonly during closing times in skating rinks and diners, also contained a very deep message. She told me that songs become popular and well listened to when they have a deeper meaning while being relatable.
I chose to work off of a small chorus that I made in the 8th grade:
And when I look up at the stars,
Constellations you may deem bizarre.
Although you may be very far, we’re
seeing them through the same hearts.
And when I look up at the stars,
Constellations you may deem bizarre.
Although you may be very far, we’re
seeing them through the same hearts.
